Eccentrick Art Show 09

Unfortunately this year, I didn’t attend the art show but I did help in some way, as I helped clean up the media area. It was a lot of hard work! But it was worth a unit that was worth it. We had alot to clean up as there was work that had to be taken done the next day after the art ended but it worked out well, as we worked in small groups we would then be assigned areas to help out. At first it seemed like a big mess in the area as lots of people were in the same area cleaning different things. Before we tore down the collages of ourselves off the wall we looked other people’s work and told each other what they felt about it etc. We saw how our fellow students did their assignments using various programs such as illustrator as it was very well done.

The hardest part of the clean up was after lunch as we finished with the media clean up, we had to help the design art side bring back their chairs and other tables. That took a lot of man power as we had walk more than 10 times to the corner of the school to bring back heavy tables in pairs as it couldn’t be possible for one person to do it on their own.
My personal thoughts on the art show this year, it was quite “eccentrick” as it was completely different from last year. Being a sophomore at this school gives us to right to evaluate and compare last’s years to this year’s art show. This year they had “David” as their main symbol as they would do variations of David on the posters and shirts that they we selling. They even got to paint the wall on the stairs leading to the art area. That was very cool.

Everything and Nobody's Happy

Everything and Nobody’s Happy?
How can that be? Well after watching that tremendously hilarious short clip of Conan O’Brien with guest Louis C.K. He talked about how technology was back then was and how it is today and people aren’t appreciating what we have today. Cell phones, computers, all these tools are great. But do we ever think that technology is making use more useless? Like C.K said we’re complaining on how long it takes to call someone. People don’t give the device time to serve its purpose. I mean why bother to use something if you want to complain every time?

We should really be happy for what we have; people should think that they are really lucky to be born in a society in which everything is made simple. Airplanes have internet access? Well now it does, flights back then boring as they don’t even have a single projector or television screen anywhere near the seats. I’m already happy that we have a TV screen in front of me on a long distance flight. Internet access is basically a bonus (well I do think that the airlines charges you, not too sure)

Imagine you’re one of those unlucky kids in those third world countries. Everyday they are fighting just to survive while we just complain and complain some more to your parents that you “Nick has this and Jessica has that” you should be thinking you’re extremely lucky to be born on this side of the earth. I’m pretty sure that if we put those spoil brats on the other side of the earth where all the third world children are, they will realize that they got it easy, as I believe they wouldn’t last long living in poverty.

Cell Phone Manners

Cell Phones? Yes Cell Phones, I have one. But unlike most people, My cell phone is for emergencies therefore I wouldn’t be really using that often. The point is, how do people manage to get their cell phone bills over $100? There has been cases on the news about an adult with a job receiving a bill that asked her to pay I believe $4000. My goodness a $4000 phone bill, luckily she had a job, and I guess she might have to bring her own lunch from that point onwards. It is really tempting to get a new cell phone, as companies come up with new styles and newer versions of the same style. People have to realize that they are already paying hefty phone bills per month and then they still dare to ask for a new phone, that’s really unnecessary. When kids have their cell phone they seem like their hands are glued to it, it’s either texting or talking and when it’s time to pay the bills, the kid would just go to their parents and ask tell them you don’t have enough money to pay for the bill. You’ll get your phone taken away for a few weeks, and then you get it back. You will then repeat the process of overusing again, therefore people won’t learn from their mistakes.

My 5 Rules:
1. Knowing the best time to use your cell phone, meaning that you shouldn’t be using your cell phone during school, maybe after school would be the best time. This really effects your education as you won’t focus and be behind in units!

2. Don’t use your cell phones while you’re driving! Many car crashes happen when people do not focus when they are driving they are talking on the phone. One hand is on the wheel and one hand is on the phone. Even if you want to die, die somewhere else like on your driveway. The roads are defiantly not a place where you should be using your cell phone, not only are you putting yourself at risk you’re putting other people around you at risk. That’s why there’s a law now that doesn’t allow people to use cell phones while driving, you’re only permitted to use hands free.

3. Turn off your cell phones during movies, performances or even “operas” haha. What is the importance? Well the whole purpose of your going to a movie, performances etc is to enjoy the time but instead by leaving your phone on, your phone can ring any moment and annoy others. If you don’t care about the movie then you shouldn’t be watching, it isn’t right to disturb others. People pay good money to watch movies, and operas.

4. Know your limit, people should be aware what plan they joined for the cell phone how many minutes per month, they should know their limit and stay within it. If you know you’re about to go over your limit then there’s something called a pay phone that doesn’t cost you much.

5. Keeping your tone down at a reasonable level everywhere, unless it is really necessary to “yell”. Would you like people yelling when you’re expected to use the normal tone? You might but I’m pretty sure 95% of the people don’t. Do people really need to know you’re going to watch a movie? The answer is no, people need to know what they are doing and respect others.

Colossal U Ad Campaign

A very interesting ad indeed, in my opinion I don't think it's a great thing to have everyone from that university turning out the same because it doesn't really bring out what that particular individual has to offer before. But the truth is Colossal U is not real (Thank Goodness it isn't) it's part of a campaign made by the university of Algoma, a university which is located in Sault Ste Marie. What Algoma University is trying to do is to get people looking at the made up Colossal U ad and say wow is there such thing as a University that makes you the same, others will think it's not possible, some may think they might be interested, but for those who want to look further into the ad simply because of interest they will be disappointed, they will only find out that there is a link to the Algoma University site, where they tell you it's completely different to Colossal U, and listen in to what they have to say.
My questions towards the Colossal U, what standards do you really have, since you say everyone will turn out the same like a cookie cutter cuts the dough, but for every cookie cutter there has to be a cutter base or in the human case, a main model in which students will look apron and see this is how they will look like after you finish courses in Colossal U. What exact standards do these teachers have at Colossal U? This ad was just basically a brain/ psychological game that makes you feel like you want to learn more about this interesting yet weird university. My final and personal thoughts about this advertisement is it was very successful on getting people talking about it and having people noticing it, how successful? well it was successful enough to be used as a blog topic, the ad creator must be proud to get grade 10's already talking about it.

Gaming Gone Wild

In my opinion, i believe gaming does steal from the youth, but if they have enough self control they can handle this and participate in other fun outdoor sports or helping at churches, volunteering is also a good option. Sometimes gaming plays a large part of people's lives, but to me I believe i can survive without gaming. I started playing games on my PC starting with classics such as NHL 99 and Triple Play 2000, these games were surprisingly really fun, and when I was a kid I would always play it after school on Friday. Though i don't play those games anymore on the PC. My first actual game system was my PlayStation 2 (PS2) i had to ask for a actual game system for a long time, when i finally got it, i was sort of addicted to it cause owning something you wanted for a long time is something very satisfying. My first games for my PlayStation 2 was NHL 2004 and NBA Live 05, but gradually lost interest in those games, but instead bought newer versions of the game, as i was attracted to the new features and functions such as dekes your can pull off in a newer version of the NHL game and updated rosters for NBA games. Before i got a gaming console, I would always hear people talk about what new games they bought for their game systems etc. I would always be excited when i could go to a friends house and play on their system. Currently i only own two systems a PS2 and a Wii, as for handhelds i have a Nintendo DS Lite

When comparing the games such as tetris, mario brothers. I personally have played these games and felt that these games can still be exciting for some and to me these are classics. New games come out every year for sports games, and as for other action packed games, they would come out once they see sales for the other game is falling etc.
New gaming consoles, as long as i believe my system is still functioning and games will still come out for the console, i would not buy a new system. I have handheld game system Nintendo DS lite and i feel this one is better than the recently released handheld Nintendo DSi, the only differences are there is a camera and screens are slightly changed nothing much.
Some games i think i won't get addicted to would be guitar hero or rock band because I'm not fond of those games, my hand eye coordination isn't as great, so therefore i won't be playing that particular game.

The Campaign Trail

After reviewing the videos posted. I felt that the first commercial was quite funny, it was a commercial that would make people laugh, and it wanted viewers to remember the name of the company who made up this commercial which was the beer brand Budweiser. That being said, the newer commercial made in 2008 by now president-elect Barack Obama Campaign was quite interesting for it covered the main struggling points of the United States, and indicated the main problems starting with the first guy in the first video he was enjoying a football game and drinking his beer but in Obama's Campaign Video he's unemployed and is I believe looking for a job at the Classified section of his newspaper, depressed he answers the call from his friend in Iraq, the second guy is serving in the war in Iraq, so therefore the second issue is about War and how the US is still in Iraq. Another guy walks in with casts on, asking for painkillers. This means that he cannot afford to buy it, health care is the issue covered. In the US you have to pay for your own health care, which is quite a hefty sum. The fourth character called "Dukie" is called upon, he is still on Internet looking at his stocks, as he looks at them he can see a huge drop as the red arrows are point down, this means the Economy is another issue. The last character enters in the background you can see him struggling to hang on with the huge gusts of wind pulling him off the ground. This means that there are Environmental issues.

In my opinion I felt it must have took the campaign quite a long time to think about this very interesting commercial, they must have reviewed many commercials and tried to incorporate fresh idea in a newer commercial. Characters in the second one look as they were the same, their clothing were different; they made small adjustments such as the different number on the jersey etc. The characters didn't look like they were as happy as they were in the Budweiser commercial.

If I were able to vote, I would vote for the Democratic Candidate and now President-Elect Barack Obama. He won lots of people’s vote, the young and the old by signalling that there shall be change when he gets elected, but from I personally feel, all professional politicians all say they will do this and do that (but they don’t really do exactly as they once said) when they get voted in, but we will have to see if Barack Obama keeps his word. But seriously I personally don’t care whoever gets voted in as the US president. I would actually be interested in seeing Hilary Clinton on becoming the first female president, wouldn’t that be something. But then again I am probably more concerned about the federal government in Canada or perhaps the Liberal Convention to determine a replacement for Current Opposition Stephane Dion. I have also notice that there is more concern over the US president election compared to the Canadian Federal Elections; remember that you are in Canada not the US. Let me remind you our current Prime Minister is Stephen Harper not Barack Obama. I am happy for Obama and in the end I congratulate Barack Obama on becoming the first African American President of the United States. Mission Accomplished Obama!!
